Congressional Bill aims to make Produce Affordable
Wholesome Wave is proud to support a new Congressional bill called the Local Food And Regional Market Supply Act (Local FARMS Act). Introduced by Representatives Chellie Pingree (D-ME), Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) & Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY), the bill builds on existing proven programs and streamlines new efforts to ensure more Americans can afford fruits and vegetables.
In addition, the bill’s food-as-medicine pilot program invests in fruits and vegetables as a means to improve public health. By making healthy choices affordable in the first place, we can improve lives - and reduce diet-related healthcare costs. It's a smart approach for individual health and the entire healthcare system.
We encourage other members of Congress to support this bill and invite our network members to discuss its importance with their representatives. Because everyone in America, regardless of income, should be able to afford something as essential as fruits and vegetables.
