Wholesome Crave: A New Social Venture Food Company Founded by Chef Michel Nischan
Wholesome Wave Co-Founder Michel Nischan has stepped aside from his role as the organization’s CEO to form Wholesome Crave, a social venture food company built to help power the direct-action work of Wholesome Wave. Craig Lomma, Wholesome Wave’s long-standing Chief Operating Officer, has taken the helm as Wholesome Wave’s CEO.
A four-time James Beard award-winning chef known for his 40 years of work and advocacy toward a more sustainable and equitable food system, Nischan continues his innovation in creating purpose-driven concepts in the healthy food category. Wholesome Crave aims to revolutionize the soup category by offering a line of fresh-made, plant-based soups, prepared with responsibly and sustainably-sourced whole ingredients, using Nischan’s personal recipes.
A percentage of Wholesome Crave’s gross revenues will be directed to Wholesome Wave—providing unrestricted dollars that will help fuel Wave’s efforts to increase affordable access to fruits and vegetables for those who struggle with hunger.
“More than 40 million Americans are food-insecure and cannot afford the fruits and vegetables needed to be healthy,” Lomma shared. “Diversifying Wholesome Wave’s funding is of paramount importance to achieving our mission on a larger scale.”
For Nischan, the mission of Wholesome Crave is clear: "I believe that the combination of Wholesome Crave and Wholesome Wave will together achieve our goal of good food for all, regardless of income."
As Wholesome Wave’s Co-Founder and non-executive Chairman of its Board, Nischan will remain the face and voice for the organization, as well as the lead advocate and strategist for the organization’s ground-breaking policy efforts.
