Wholesome Wave helps people in poverty afford fruits and vegetables from coast to coast. Take Maine for example. For years we’ve worked with partners in the Pine Tree State to empower low-income households to afford locally grown produce. In 2017, Maine Harvest Bucks reached nearly 20,000 individuals with over $700,000 in healthy local food at participating farms, farmers markets and grocery stores. The program got fresh produce to the families who need it most, while boosting sales for local farmers.
But don’t take our word for it. Here’s what a participating shopper and a farmer had to say about how this program touches their lives:
"The Maine Harvest Bucks program helps me stretch my SNAP benefits to provide a healthy dinner for my son and I." -Mary Robinson, Lewiston, ME
"The MHB program helps many families access the CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture farm share) programs who would otherwise not be able to afford it. We hear so much appreciation and see very concrete results -- children eating more vegetables-- because of this program." -Maine Farmer
